HbA1c test calculates the quantity of blood sugar (glucose) that is attached to your haemoglobin. Haemoglobin is the part of your blood that carries oxygen from your lungs to the rest of your body organs. The test helps check diabetes or prediabetes for adults. Prediabetes is the early stage where your blood sugar levels portray the risk of you getting diabetes.

Reference Values

Normal Range: 4% -5.6%.
Increased risk of diabetes: 5.7% and 6.4%

Interpretations

Higher the HbA1c level, higher the risk of developing diabetes associated complications.
