The blood and other body fluids have minerals that carry an electric charge. These are called as Electrolytes and perform many important functions in the body. The most common electrolytes that you may know already are: Sodium, Potassium, Calcium, Phosphorus, Magnesium, Chloride. This test is primarily used to assess the acid-base balance.
